School Council

At Rednal Hill Junior we aim to help pupils understand and develop their roles and responsibilities as members of both the school and the local community.

To help realise this aim we have a School Council made up of elected representatives from each class. The council meets on a regular basis to discuss matters of concern and potential improvements identified by pupils. These have included organising fundraising events in school, including Christmas activities and organising the raffle for the summer picnic. This year we have focused on activities that would contribute towards Health Week. The School Council organised a sports themed series of games and quizzes and a sponsored walk around the field which raised £1574.29 for WaterAid.

“ If you want to be in the School Council you need to give a speech to your class and can make posters and leaflets to persuade people to vote for you. Voting day is very exciting with voters placing a cross on the ballot paper for their chosen person. They then slot their vote into the ballot box. Afterwards the winner is announced.”

“Pupils like school and have a valued voice through their school council. As one pupil commented, “ We have a say in what goes on”. They are currently involved in decision making about the school’s major environmental project in the school grounds. Older pupils develop maturity through responsibility and play a vital role in maintaining the school’s happy atmosphere as well as forging good links with the adjoining infant school.”                                            Ofsted 2010
