Parent Support Information
Following on from our Children's Mental Health week during week beginning 1st February 2021, we are keen for you to continue to support your child's mental health and wellbeing. We have shared resources previously, and videos and links are still available on the school's website here. In this week's newsletter, we would like to provide you with access to 4 mindfulness videos created and prepared by Mrs Hayes and Mrs Fowke that can be used to support your child's wellbeing while at home. Children are likely to be familiar with these, as they were shared with children during the Autumn term as part of our Recovery Curriculum. However, they are worthwhile to re-visit and watch together, as Mindfulness is something that requires practise and dedication.

How can I help my child manage their worries and anxiety?
As we enter our fifth week of the lockdown period and home learning we want to acknowledge the amazing efforts of parents and carers in supporting their children through what has been, and continues to be a difficult period. We recognise the additional stresses that lockdown has presented for children and their families, and understand that in times where we feel everything is so different and may feel out of our control, this can contribute to feeling anxious.
Anxiety can be a feeling of unease or continuing worry. It can present in our bodies as: a racing heart-beat; shortness of breath; feeling hot and sweaty; sometimes feeling light headed or dizzy. Children may describe having a ‘funny feeling in their tummy’ or other physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle aches, loss of appetite and change in sleeping habits.
To help explain anxiety and offer suggestions on how parents/carers can support their children in managing their worries and anxiety, we have provided a link to a short video featuring Mrs Fowke, one of our Learning Mentors, that may be useful in helping you recognise the signs of anxiety and what you can do to help reduce anxiety for your children.
From 1-7 February 2021, we're taking part in Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week. This year's theme is Express Yourself.
Place2Be has created activities and resources to help children (and adults) to explore different ways that they can share their thoughts, feelings and ideas.
There are lots of resources on the Children's Mental Health Week website that you can use with your child at home: including activity ideas, tips for parents and carers, and an online assembly which will be available from Monday 1 February.

To recognise how important our children's and our own mental health is, we would like to promote a 'Screen Free Wellbeing Wednesday Afternoon' on Wednesday 3rd February, where families who are home-learning take a break from screen time (if working from home allows) and engage in one or more of the recommended activities listed below:
