Weekly Focused Assemblies
Week Beginning 16/01/23
Our assembly this week was all about the Chinese New Year. The children learned that the Chinese New Year is on 22nd January 2023 and that it is the year of the rabbit.
They spoke about how Chinese New Year is celebrated by giving red envelopes with money in, watching fireworks, spring cleaning houses and sharing special meal times with family and friends. They also learned that during Chinese New Year, dragon dances are performed to scare evil spirits and that dancers carry a long paper dragon held up on poles.
The children then listened to and enjoyed a story all about Chinese New Year! To enhance the meaning of our assembly and to ensure that children are exposed a wide variety of music, the children listened to ‘Gunghay’ – a happy new year Cantonese song at the start and the end of the assembly.
